Storm Preparedness for Tempe?

Storms can be unpredictable in Maricopa County.

SERVPRO® of North Tempe and Mesa East wants everyone to be prepared to weather the storm and offers this helpful information from the American Red Cross for building a survival kit:

• Water: one gallon per person, per day (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home)
• Food: non-perishable, easy-to-prepare items (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home)
• Flashlight 
• Battery-powered or hand-crank radio (NOAA Weather Radio, if possible)
• Extra batteries 
• Deluxe family first aid kit
• Medications (7-day supply) and medical items
• Multi-purpose tool
• Sanitation and personal hygiene items
• Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies)
• Cell phone with chargers (Similar item available in the Red Cross Store)
• Family and emergency contact information
• Extra cash

The City of Tempe offers this information on other things you can do to prepare for flash flooding:

• Trim trees, so they are away from windows and roofs
• Inspect and clear your roof drainage system and flat roofs
• Clear debris from street gutters near your property to help prevent street flooding
• Unplug expensive electronics, install power protection devices
• Don’t apply fertilizers or other outdoor chemicals before a storm
• Secure loose outdoor furniture
• Use sandbags to prevent flooding; info on free sandbags at tempe.gov/monsoons
• Have an evacuation plan
